Feminine puffy pink ceramic hearts are given a tougher edge with the addition of steely grey lustrous hematite (haematite). The name hematite comes from the Greek word for blood (haima) due to the fact it has a red form. Often used in healing, hematite, the mineral form of iron oxide, is harder than pure iron but more brittle. Hematite is often found where there used to be volcanoes and hotsprings. It occurs in Canada, Australia, Mexico South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Greenland, the Pacific Ocean and Japan. Hematite has also been found on Mars.
