When not in use your earrings should be stored in a protective box, preferably with a soft lining to prevent damage. Alternatively an airtight plastic bag made of polyethylene or Mylar will do the job if you squeeze the air out of the bag as you close it. Never use polyvinyl plastic bags like rubbish sacks because they contain sulphur which will hasten the natural tarnishing process. Store your earrings in a cool, dry place.
A new technology now available is Anti-Tarnish Paper Strips. These absorb sulphides and other airborne pollutants that cause tarnishing. Simply place a strip, or a section of it, in an enclosed space alongside your metal earrings. They will protect silver, copper, gold, bronze and plated metals.
Please note that EarringArt's gift boxes are not meant for long-term storage as they are not airtight.
